Mobile Website VS Mobile App

For association professionals, the term mobile is heard more and more every day.  Membership departments hear requests for event itineraries through iPhones and iPads; staff in government relations departments need quick access to member directories.  And today, “going mobile” is being looked at as the solution for addressing these needs.

Mobile Websites are:

  • Browser-based HTML pages linked together and accessed over the Internet
  • Designed for handheld displays and touch screen interfaces
  • Optimized for mobile browsing. It can be reached through a phone's web browser directly.

Mobile Apps are:

  • A software application written in the native language of a particular platform - in the case of our conference app, iPhone or Droid.
  • Available in an App Store
  • Able to work offline
